to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 11. inst, and of its inclosure. relating to the deficient weight, and alleged deficient quality of certain paper supplied by this Office and sent to Hong Kong; and with reference thereto beg to state,
e for the information of the noble Secretary of State for the Colonies -
That the complaint forwarded from Hong Kong that 26 Reams Foolscap stated in the invoice to weigh 20lb per ream, And charged as such to the Colonial Agent, while, in fact; it only weighed 18lb, is perfectly well founded. "The error, which I regret extremely should have occurred, originated in the inexcusable carelessness of the Clerks, employed to make out the Account, who substituted 20lb for 18lb.
